National Police Athletic/Activities Leagues (PAL) will enhance a well-organized and tested national mentoring program for up to 160 select PAL Chapters across the nation for a period of 18 months. At least 90% of the award amount will be distributed through sub-awards to the local PAL Chapters in at least 38 states. National PAL will select Chapters to participate in this initiative through an application process. Once the local sites are selected, National PAL will execute a cost-reimbursable sub-award contract with each of the participating PAL Chapters. The goals of the program are to: 1) enhance and expand the National PAL Mentoring Initiative in partnership with local and state PAL Chapters; 2) provide support to improve outcomes for children identified as being at-risk for negative behaviors by establishing a mentoring relationship with a trained PAL volunteer mentor; 3) reduce the likelihood of juvenile delinquency; and 4) provide up to 160 PAL sites with training, technical assistance, and appropriate resources that enable them to enhance a quality mentoring program and sustain positive matches at the local level.
