Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2015, $125,000)
OJJDP's State and Community Development Awards program was established to provide grants and cooperative agreements to organizations that OJJDP has selected for funds in prior years. This program has been authorized by an Act appropriating funds for the Department of Justice.
The National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention (Forum) was established by the White House in 2011 and is a network of cities united in their drive to prevent youth violence with federal agencies and private partners. The Forum has expanded to a total of 15 cities that are implementing strategies and evidenced-based programs to reduce youth violence. The Departments of Justice, Education, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, and Labor as well as the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Office of National Drug Control Policy provide key supports to the Forum cities. OJJDP provides funding to support the core activities in Forum cities linked to the approved comprehensive plans.
The City of Minneapolis will use Forum funding to support implementation of the Blueprint for Action to Prevent Youth Violence. Funding will provide support travel expenses for members of the YVP Multijurisdictional Team to participate in site visits. It will also support planned activities to improve the organizational infrastructure and develop a sustainability plan for leveraging partner organizations and agencies around Blueprint implementation. Additionally, the City of Minneapolis will develop and implement a community engagement and public awareness plan for youth violence prevention efforts; support a committee and strategic plan to address early childhood to violence, with a focus on outcomes in identified hot spots; and support a percentage of two Health Department staff. The Minneapolis Health Department (MHD) will continue to provide technical assistance and coordination to Minneapolis Public Schools on the implementation of PBIS; however, Minneapolis Public Schools will be responsible for any cost associated with the implementation. A process evaluation will be conducted in order to measure successful implementation of grant-related activities. Performance measures will be reported as required.
