OJJDP FY 2012 National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention Training and Technical Assistance Project

At the direction of President Obama, the Departments of Justice and Education launched the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention (Forum) to begin a national conversation concerning youth and gang violence, raise awareness, and elevate the issue to national significance. The National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Project supports Forum sites through several vehicles, including onsite technical assistance; offsite technical assistance (e.g., telephone, e-mail, Internet, distance learning); peer-to-peer information exchange and mentoring (individual, group, or jurisdiction-wide); publication development and dissemination; information sharing; conferences, workshops, and training events, including agenda development, speaker identification, and logistical support; and curriculum development. The FY 2012 OJJDP National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Project is authorized by the Department of Justice Authorization Act, 2012, Pub. L. No. 112-55, 125 Stat. 552, 617.

Development Services Group, Inc., (DSG) together with their subcontractors the Council of State Governments and the Major Cities Chiefs Association, will develop training and technical assistance (T&TA) to support the ten sites of the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention to effectively address the pressing issue of gang and youth violence. DSG will develop a national network of stakeholders and provide Forum sites with tools, resources, training, and TA for addressing youth violence. DSG will mobilize experts to provide customized, effective, and cost-effective T&TA; facilitate communication between sites and peer-to-peer training; provide data-driven and evidence-based strategies and practices; and facilitate a national conversation on youth and gang violence. DSG will provide extensive TA (onsite and offsite), three trainings, ongoing peer-to-peer support, and Webinars using highly trained staff and more than 50 expert consultants; support an annual National Summit; and develop monthly newsletters and other tools and resource materials. DSG's data collection plan includes 11 output measures (e.g., number of trainings) and eight short- and long-term outcome measures (e.g., increased knowledge; improved communication/coordination among sites).
