Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2012, $225,000)

The Center for Innovation and Research, Inc. will develop and sustain a national membership organization of nonprofit organizations serving families of missing children. This project will promote culturally appropriate organizational capacity through resource sharing and peer learning among its members and target stakeholders: non-profit organizations, law enforcement, government, clearinghouses and community-based organizations. The project will identify best practices for working with families of missing children and disseminate information on those practices in both English and Spanish; develop partnerships with key stakeholders serving families of missing children; convene a national membership meeting for members and stakeholders; convene a national training conference for members and stakeholders; recruit non-profit organizations serving families of missing and exploited children; and recruit non-profit organizations working with culturally and racially diverse and underserved communities, including lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning (LGBTQ) youth. They will also share resources with stakeholders, law enforcement, government, non profit organizations and community based organizations. Proposed activities include the following: to continue to develop and implement the strategic plan, refine membership development and outreach strategies, and identify best practices for working with families of missing children. CMACO will conduct site visits to member organizations and disseminate "how to" information on best practices.
