Mentoring Enhancement Partnership

This demonstration program will support collaborations of qualified, established mentoring program sites to incorporate advocacy or teaching functions into mentors' roles through (1) matching youth and mentors based on needs, skills, experiences, and interests; (2) initial and ongoing training for mentors; and (3) ongoing mentor support.

Mentoring Enhancement Partnership's focus is youth age 11-15 in metro Denver who are at risk of developing serious problem behaviors. The leadership/implementation team will: (1) Develop common questions for questionnaires and one-on-one interviews to assess mentor and mentee interests, skills, and needs; implement a risk and protective factor survey and implement the True Colors and Introversion/Extroversion Scale; (2) Design new training and ensure that training is implemented as designed; (3) Research and contract with training professionals as necessary to ensure that training meets desired goals; (4) Ensure that training is evaluated and revise as needed; and (5) Determine elements desired for the on-line mentor resource, will seek, interview, and select IT professional(s) to implement their design, and will ensure that it is in place as required. The partners, Aurora Mental Health Centers Aurora Youth Options (AYO), Denver Urban Scholars (DUS), and Goodwill Industries of Denver (Goodwill Denver),will fully cooperate with the OJJDP evaluation.
