Indiana's Three-Year Delinquency Prevention & Systems Improvement Plan & Application

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: planning and administration; state advisory group allocation; compliance monitoring; disproportionate minority contact; juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes; prevention of substance abuse by juveniles; prevention of serious and violent crimes by juveniles; prevention of juvenile gang involvement and illegal youth gang activities; prevention of delinquent acts and identification of youth at risk of delinquency; and improvement of juvenile justice system operations, policies, and procedures including establishing a system of graduated sanctions, treatment programs, and aftercare.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, the designated state agency for Indiana, is requesting FY 2012 Title II Formula Grant funding, which will enable Indiana to remain in compliance with the four (4) Core Requirements of the JJDP Act. Continued Formula Grant funding will enable the Institute to maintain a contract with the Youth Law T.E.A.M. of Indiana, who has continued to ensure Indiana's compliance with the first three (3) core requirements. Also, continued funding will enable Indiana to maintain and enhance the progress made over the last year in the area of DMC and to meet the additional requirements as outlined by OJJDP. Funding will be limited to statewide projects that are evidence-based or promising practices and that assist the State with maintaining compliance with the JJDP Act. Finally, this funding will continue to support full-time staff that will manage all aspects of the Title II Formula Grants Program, as well as allow staff to attend conferences and trainings as required and recommended by OJJDP.
