Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $1,306,083)

The FY 2011 State Juvenile Justice Formula and Block Grants Training and Technical Assistance Program furthers the Department of Justice's mission by providing training and technical assistance to state and local juvenile justice formula and block grantees and subgrantees to assist them in planning, establishing, operating, coordinating, and evaluating delinquency prevention and juvenile justice systems improvement projects.

The American Institutes for Research (AIR), National Center for Juvenile Justice (NCJJ), and Coalition for Juvenile Justice (CJJ) submitted a joint application that fully addressed all solicitation requirements and program deliverables. Working collaboratively with OJJDP, the applicant will provide high-quality national, state and local training and technical assistance that will support state and subgrantee capacities and competencies to plan, establish, operate, coordinate and evaluate delinquency prevention and juvenile justice system improvement projects. Specifically, the applicant will proactively assess recipients' training and technical assistance needs, deliver customized training and technical assistance products and services, develop a menu of in-person and virtual training opportunities, and emphasize and support the use of best practices through peer learning events. Furthermore, the applicant will focus efforts on improving state and local planning efforts through the improved use of data, increased implementation of evidence-based approaches, and systems reform. Technical assistance will be provided over a twelve-month period with up to two additional years of funding based on performance and available funds. (NCA/NCF)
