Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $450,000)
This program will support an organization or a consortium of organizations to provide technical assistance to OJJDP grantees and other organizations addressing commercial sexual exploitation (CSE) or domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) of girls and boys. The program will offer education and training, expert consultations, peer-to-peer networking opportunities, resources, and other tailored assistance to effectively respond to diverse communities addressing the sexual victimization of girls and boys.
Working collaboratively with OJJDP, Safe Horizon will: (1) utilize participatory methods to identify training and technical assistance needs of OJJDP grantees and help them prevent CSE/DMST and protect victims in their communities, (2) build a national network of CSE/DMST experts who will share promising practices and develop improved strategies to combat the crime, and (3) increase inter-agency communication and collaboration in communities with an OJJDP CSE/DMST grantee. The Program will be implemented in four phases: (1) staffing and kick-off meeting within 30 days of the notification of award, (2) needs assessment to begin developing within 30 days of the kickoff meeting, (3) curriculum development once the data from the needs assessment have been collected and analyzed, and (4) implementation of training and technical assistance including (a)distance training, (b) peer-to-peer consultation, (c) technical assistance, (d) on-site consultation, (e) regional grantee meeting(s), (f) cross-site meeting in Washington, DC, (g) trainings for community partners (as requested), and (h) webpage preparation.
