Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $50,000)

The Title V Community Prevention Grants Program intends to reduce risks and enhance protective factors to prevent at-risk youth from entering the juvenile justice systems and to intervene with first-time and non-serious offenders to keep them out of the juvenile justice system.

The State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs will award a third year renewal grant to a sub grantee in 2011 for use in calendar year 2012. The Lakes Area Restorative Justice program will provide early and timely intervention by engaging juveniles and their families in a process that holds juveniles who involve themselves in unlawful behavior directly accountable to those they have harmed and to their community. The State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety, Office of Justice Programs has migrated from the Pequot Lakes Police Department to the Crow Wing Sheriff's Department since the program is now serving the larger county community with Title V funds. The State of Minnesota expects that eighty-five percent of the youth will not re-offend in the next year. Ninety percent of the contracts formed between youth who have caused harm and those who were harmed will be successfully completed. Ninety-five percent of the persons who were harmed will be satisfied with the outcomes of the contracts formed between them and those who caused the harm. Finally, youth and victims will meet in a timely manner so that contracts between the youth and their victims are formed within one month from the time of referral. NCA/NCF
