Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $42,042)

The Disproportionate Minority Contact Community and Strategic Planning Project assists states with implementing state and/or local governing boards and to conduct an assessment of the local jurisdiction(s) juvenile justice system to determine the extent of DMC and possible contributing factors to reduce, without establishing or requiring numerical standards or quotas, the disproportionate number of minority juveniles who come into contact with the juvenile justice system in based on the Community and Strategic Planning Project curriculum.

Grant funds will be used to implement and expand current local task forces in targeted Disproportionate Minority Contact local sites, reduce the number of minority youth placed in secure detention, provide training materials and training sessions on evidence-based practices, and assist selected evaluators with the process evaluation.
