Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $1,349,267)

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support State and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: Planning and administration; State Advisory Group allocation; compliance monitoring; juvenile justice issues for American Indian tribes; prevention of substance abuse by juveniles; prevention of serious and violent crimes by juveniles; prevention of juvenile gang involvement and illegal youth gang activities; prevention of delinquent acts and identification of youth at risk of delinquency; and improvement of juvenile justice system operations, policies, and procedures including establishing a system of graduated sanctions, treatment programs, and aftercare.

The Governor's Office for Children and Families (GOCF) administers Georgia's Title II Formula Grants award. GOCF is dedicated to supporting and strengthening families through a community based system of prevention and intervention services. Georgia will dedicate the FY 2011 Title II Formula Grant funding to activities that build community capacity through strategic planning efforts, juvenile justice system improvements that focus on cooperation and coordination between partners in Georgias juvenile justice system (DJJ, DFCS, mental health, school systems, juvenile courts & law enforcement), and staff support to enhance and maintain the State's ability to maintain compliance with Sections 223(a)(11), (12), (13), and (22) of the JJDP Act. Further, the State of Georgia aims to improve cooperation and coordination between key community and State level partners to better serve youth. (NCA/NCF)
