Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $300,000)
The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under age 21.
The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), as the Designated State Agency, will implement programs that support the Empowering Florida Youth Initiative. DCF will continue to increase statewide enforcement, coordination between law enforcement agencies, and cooperation with community based programs and other state agencies working to reduce underage drinking. Specifically the Florida DCF will: 1)Develop and maintain the community youth leadership task forces that will reflect and implement best and most promising practices to increase the enforcement of underage drinking laws; and 2) Develop a youth driven action plan for increasing the enforcement of underage drinking laws and reducing underage drinking in order to meet grant requirements as follows: Increase awareness of alcohol issues; engage in policy change regarding alcohol; develop and maintain a sustainable youth empowerment initiative; reduce the social availability of alcohol to youth; adopt/change local policies as related to underage drinking; and collaborate with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, the Statewide Social Marketing Project, and other media partners.
