OJJDP FY 2011 Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Block Grants Program

OJJDP's State and Community Development Awards program was established to provide grants and cooperative agreements to organizations that OJJDP has selected for funds in prior years. This program has been authorized by an Act appropriating funds for the Department of Justice. The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

The goals of the Department of Youth Affairs Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program are to reduce underage drinking and impaired driving by supporting and enhancing island-wide efforts that prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors below the age of 21, the purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors below the age of 21, as well as sale to adults who purchase for minors below the age of 21. The department will continue to support the partnership for the One Nation Alcohol Free Social Marketing Campaign and other Media Awareness Education Activities; develop and implement strategies that further address the seriousness of alcohol consumption and the aftermath of effects on incarceration to breaking alcohol laws; and the correlation of alcohol use and suicide/suicide-attempts, violence, teen pregnancy with other factors that result in incarceration of youth.
