OJJDP FY 11 Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Program

OJJDP's State and Community Development Awards program was established to provide grants and cooperative agreements to organizations that OJJDP has selected for funds in prior years. This program has been authorized by an Act appropriating funds for the Department of Justice.

The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

Alaska's Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) will support the following programs/activities as a part of its FY 2013 EUDL supplemental grant award: 1) continue the training and certification program for juvenile justice officers and juvenile probation officers working with institutionalized youth in DJJ youth facilities and with DJJ-involved youth in communities in substance abuse counseling; 2) continue supporting youth attendance at the Rural Providers' Conference for DJJ-involved youth so they may be directly involved in developing strategies to reduce underage drinking; and, 3) continue providing two rural mini-conferences focused on developing community-based strategies to reduce underage drinking in rural Alaska. The mini-conferences focus on information related to the Juvenile Justice system including developing partnerships to increase successful transition for youth back to rural communities, reducing underage drinking, mentoring and improved communication. One mini-conference will be held in the Northern Region and one in the Southeastern Region. NCA/NCF
