Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $300,000)
The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.
Utah's Highway Safety Office is the designated state agency for OJJDP's Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) funds. The Utah Highway Safety Office will utilize FY 2011 EUDL funds to continue supporting fifteen multi-agency task forces throughout the State. The task forces target youth alcohol violations and illegal drug activity. Activities will include shoulder tap operations, parking lot surveillance, merchant compliance checks and other innovative enforcement activities. Additionally, the Utah Highway Safety Office will support public awareness campaigns, including participating at local and Statewide events to highlight efforts to reduce underage drinking and educating the public, political leaders and law enforcement officers about youth alcohol prevention programs. The Utah Highway Safety Office will develop brochures and other materials that provide parents with resources to obtain further information on parenting skills and underage drinking. The Utah Highway Safety Office will enhance underage drinking enforcement training opportunities for officers, project directors, supervisors and law enforcement officers on enforcement and reporting requirements.
