Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $300,000)
The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.
The New Jersey Department of Law and Public Safety will implement a multi-faceted approach to combat underage drinking in New Jersey for FY11 EUDL Grant program. The program seeks to continue the long-term effective working relationships with prevention groups, law enforcement agencies, community and governmental organizations, and the education community. Through these efforts, the program will limit the availability of alcohol to persons under the age of 21, track the number of persons under the age of 21 who attempt to purchase alcohol, as well as those over 21 who purchase alcohol for those under 21. The program will also seek to educate parents, and middle and high school students on the dangers and consequences of underage drinking and increase parental involvement in working to reduce underage drinking through a community-based program. In the college community, the program will seek to address the common issues facing colleges and universities and develop strategies to best address them on the college campus and in the surrounding communities.
