OJJDP's State and Community Development Awards program was established to provide grants and cooperative agreements to organizations that OJJDP has selected for funds in prior years. This program has been authorized by an Act appropriating funds for the Department of Justice.
The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.
During the grant period, Ohio's Drug Free Action Alliance will continue with the implementation of BUZZKILL: Serve Under 21 and the Party's Over, a program to address college students of legal drinking age who serve as social hosts to underage students. This college-focused project is modeled after Parents Who Host, Lose the Most: Don't be a party to teenage drinking.
With 50 member colleges and universities in the College Initiative to Reduce High-Risk Drinking, five will receive mini-grant funding to implement the BUZZKILL: Serve Under 21 and the Party's Over program on their campus. The five implementing communities will be responsible for engaging law enforcement to enhance current underage drinking practices and policies. Fact cards, posters and other resources will be made available to these campus communities, as well as a program kit that will include print-ready artwork so they can develop and customize materials and messages appropriate for their community.
