CNMI FY 2011 Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws Grant Application

OJJDP's State and Community Development Awards program was established to provide grants and cooperative agreements to organizations that OJJDP has selected for funds in prior years. This program has been authorized by an Act appropriating funds for the Department of Justice. The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

The applicant plans to continue to fund its EUDL Task Force as well as encourage more community organizations and schools to promote EUDL programs. This EUDL grant will be made available to programs CNMI wide encompassing the islands of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota. The target population is youth under age 21, as well as parents and Youth Service Providers in government and the private sector. The Juvenile Justice Task Force will continue inter-agency collaboration and work to ensure that individual EUDL programs are implemented properly and effectively. Other planned activities of the Task Force include: to continue to take advantage of available trainings for the EUDL programs as well as request more technical assistance from the Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center. The Juvenile Justice Task Force will also continue to meet regularly with the Department of Public Safety and ABTC to ensure proper compliance and enforcement of this program both for public and private violators found contributing to underage drinking.
