Arizona to Increase Enforcement and Educational Efforts Pertaining to the Sale of Alcohol to Youth.

OJJDP's State and Community Development Awards program was established to provide grants and cooperative agreements to organizations that OJJDP has selected for funds in prior years. This program has been authorized by an Act appropriating funds for the Department of Justice. The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

The primary goal of the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety's (GOHS) Federal Fiscal Year 2013 Enforcing Underage Drinking (EUDL) program is to aggressively enforce and educate Arizona's liquor laws relating to youth alcohol possession, consumption and unlawful sales of alcoholic products to youth. GOHS' FFY 2013 EUDL proposal has two components: 1. Enforcement. GOHS will coordinate with law enforcement agencies from across the state to provide high visibility enforcement campaigns directed at underage purchase, possession and consumption as well as ensuring that businesses that sell and serve alcoholic products are complying with Arizona's liquor laws. EUDL funding will provide these agencies with overtime funds to coordinate effective youth alcohol enforcement programs; 2. Education. GOHS will continue to incorporate a variety of state-wide underage drinking prevention campaigns in collaboration with enforcement efforts.

Strategies to help Arizona reach its goals and objectives include:

1. High Visibility Enforcement; expansion of compliance check programs; TRACE Program
2. Training related to enforcement programs
3. Expand and publicize state-wide and local enforcement media campaigns
