Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2011, $300,000)
The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.
The Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Planning Commission plans to continue funding programs instituted in 2010 including the "Be 18 or Be Gone" program with the Department of Licensing and Consumer Affairs, that conducts compliance checks throughout the territory; the "Party Sober" campaign with Alpha Broadcasting Channel 8, which focuses on underage drinking during the Christmas season; and the EUDL Task Force, which includes representatives from law enforcement, the media, faith-based organizations and non-profit organizations and is active in educating merchants on the consequences of selling alcohol to minors and the effects of underage drinking. The "Make Your Own Commercial on Underage Drinking" contest will again be offered to sixth to twelfth grade students. The Virgin Island also plans to fund new and innovative programming for enforcing territorial underage drinking laws. NCA/NCF
