Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $375,000)
Tribal Youth Program Training and Technical Assistance provides training and technical assistance to the grantees of OJJDP's Tribal Youth Program (TYP); American Indian tribes, as defined in 25 U.S.C. 450(b)e; and Alaska Native communities (hereafter collectively referred to as tribal communities). TYP training and technical assistance is designed to help tribal communities develop comprehensive, systemic approaches that reduce juvenile delinquency, violence, and child victimization and increase public safety. The Tribal Youth Program Training and Technical Assistance program is authorized by the Department of Justice Appropriations Act, 2010, Pub. L. 111-117.
The project team of the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI), FirstPic, Inc, Mentor Consulting Group and Education Northwest (the NCAI team) will support TYP grantees and federally recognized tribes seeking to develop, enhance, and sustain comprehensive approaches that prevent, reduce, and control juvenile delinquency. NCAI proposes a seasoned team of experts who have an extensive history of working with American Indian and Alaska Native (AIAN) Nations and youth-serving agencies to provide productive and comprehensive training and technical assistance in a culturally competent manner. Through the Web-based T&TA system, we will track data which will provide measurement of progress toward our short- and intermediate-term goals. Additionally, the team will build an evaluation component into all training and TA events; this will help assess T&TA expectations provide future recommendations. CA/NCF
