This program intends to reduce risks and enhance protective factors to prevent at-risk youth from entering the juvenile justice systems and to intervene with first-time and non-serious offenders to keep them out of the juvenile justice system.

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is the designated State agency to receive Title V funds in the State of South Dakota. It is anticipated that 3 local community-based prevention projects will be provided a final year of continuation funding with the FY 2010 Title V allocation, with project located in Codington, Brookings and Charles Mix counties. Communities awarded Title V funds will be certified as in compliance with the core requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act. This certification is based on the Title V training received from DSG, Title V, and Title II guidelines and compliance monitoring data for the respective communities. NCA/NCF
