Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $84,945)
This program intends to reduce risks and enhance protective factors to prevent at-risk youth from entering the juvenile justice systems and to intervene with first-time and non-serious offenders to keep them out of the juvenile justice system.
Florida shall give priority in funding to applicants that demonstrate the ability to develop data-driven prevention plans and employ evidence-based strategies. In addition, the selected site will show demonstrated need based on a greater percentage of school based referrals to the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) for minor offenses. Florida plans to continue funding for the implementation of education programs for school officials and youth. The program is designed to educate school officials on the most appropriate response to delinquent behavior given the degree of severity. Additionally, the program will deter youth from participation in delinquent behavior, motivate youth to be educationally driven, and prevent truancy, suspension and expulsion.
