The OJJDP FY 10 Earmarks Program furthers the Department's mission by providing grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, to organizations identified in the Conference Report to accompany the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2010 (P.L. 111-117), H.R. Conf. Rep. No. 111-366 at 702-714.
The purpose of the 2010 Summer Stars Teen Program is to provide safe, adult-supervised activities for teenagers who reside in four of Milwaukee's neighborhoods that historically have high crime activity. This program utilizes four recreation centers along with collaborative support from Milwaukee area Community Based Organizations (CBO's) to deliver positive social and educational activities for youth. The goals are as follows: provide safe recreational enrichment programming in the targeted neighborhoods of Milwaukee, provide wellness program opportunities to teens which will provide participants with the tools and skills necessary to lead a healthy lifestyle, and empower teens to make positive and productive decisions that will deter involvement in illicit and criminal activity. A number of data collection methods will be employed to determine program effectiveness. Upon the completion of staff in-services, evaluations will be distributed to determine the effectiveness of the staff training. Pre- and post- data will be collected at each of the teen workshops. The number of teens registered, the amount of activities offered, and the final reports of collaborative partners will also be used to evaluate program. NCA/NCF
