Reducing Underage Drinking

The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

The Washington State Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery (DBHR) has as its primary prevention priority the prevention of underage drinking through changing adult attitudes about underage drinking with an effort to increase adult actions that inhibit underage use and to decrease adult conduct that tends to facilitate underage use. DBHR plans to use the media to reach parents, primarily those whose children are in middle school, and will promote use of their website (www.StartTalkingNow.org). Short-term progress will be measured by monitoring the use of the website and surveying visitors to the site. Progress toward long-term outcomes will be determined by biennial Health Youth Survey results as well as usage of DC-TAT performance measures.
