Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $356,400)
The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.
The Florida Office of Drug Control Policy (ODCP) EUDL Grant for 2010 will be used to fund its Empowering Florida Youth Initiative. ODCP will continue to increase statewide enforcement, coordination between law enforcement agencies, cooperation with community based programs, and other state agencies working to reduce underage drinking. Specifically the Florida ODCP will: 1. Develop and maintain the community youth leadership task forces that will reflect and implement best and most promising practices to increase the enforcement of underage drinking laws. 2. Develop a youth driven action plan for increasing the enforcement of underage drinking laws and to reduce underage drinking in order to meet the minimum grant requirements as follows:
o Increase awareness of alcohol issues
o Engage in policy change regarding alcohol o Develop and maintain a stainable youth empowerment initiative
o Reduce the social availability of alcohol to youth o Adopt/change local policies as related to underage drinking o Collaborate with the Office of Drug Control, the Statewide Social Marketing Project, and other media partners.
