Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $290,000)
This award is funded as one of a cohort of related projects directed at (1) developing and implementing community initiatives that promote child and youth safety; (2) providing resources and expertise to assist communities develop effective public awareness strategies about child and youth safety; and (3) raising public awareness about these issues at the local and national level.
The two-fold purpose of this program is to support demonstration projects in multiple communities and to leverage the investment in those communities by developing public awareness campaigns that disseminate the safety messages of the local projects to the broadest possible audience.
The Denver Child Advocacy Center, working with the Child Trauma Academy, will focus on issues related to child sexual abuse prevention by working to improve educators' knowledge about childhood sexuality, improving protective parenting skills, and teaching children age-appropriate self-protection skills.
