Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $33,486)
This program intends to reduce risks and enhance protective factors to prevent at-risk youth from entering the juvenile justice systems and to intervene with first-time and non-serious offenders to keep them out of the juvenile justice system.
Specifically, the State of Illinois anticipates funding four sub-grantee in FY 2009; focusing on truancy reduction efforts in communities that have experienced a significant increase in chronic truancy. Sub-grantees must meet the requirements set forth in 42 U.S.C. Section 5783(b) of the JJDP Act of 2002, and Illinois shall give priority in funding to applicants that demonstrate the ability to develop data-driven prevention plans and employ evidence-based strategies.
