The OJJDP FY 09 Earmarks Programs further the Department's mission by providing grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, to organizations identified in the Explanatory Statement Regarding H.R. 1105 (Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009), 155 Cong. Rec. H1653 (daily ed. Feb. 23, 2009) (statement by Rep. Obey, Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations of the House).
The purpose of the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Summer Stars Teen Program is to provide safe, supervised activities for teenagers who reside in some of Milwaukee's most impoverished neighborhoods. The activities will take place within four MPS high schools in partnership with ten Milwaukee-area community based organizations (CBO's). The goals of the program are to provide safe, supervised recreational enrichment programming for teens; provide opportunities for teens to engage in healthy activities; and empower teens to make positive decisions that will deter involvement in illicit and criminal activity. The program will incorporate the following performance data collection: 1) Staff in-service evaluations will be administered to determine training effectiveness; 2) Pre- Post surveys will be administered to teens at all workshops; 3) Attendance data will be tracked via web-based data tracking system; 4) Satisfaction surveys will be administered to all participants; and 5) Final reports will be collected from collaborative partners.
