Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $75,000)

The OJJDP FY 09 Earmarks Programs further the Department's mission by providing grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, to organizations identified in the Explanatory Statement Regarding H.R. 1105 (Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009), 155 Cong. Rec. H1653 (daily ed. Feb. 23, 2009) (statement by Rep. Obey, Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations of the House).

Youth Violence and Delinquency Prevention (YVDP) program will offer {90} youth ages 11-14 the opportunity to actively participate in prevention activities that will give them a sense of belonging, a sense of competence, a feeling of hope and build positive relationships with caring adults.

The program will work collaboratively with guidance counselors, social workers, teachers, psychologists, school administrators, juvenile detention, probations officers, PINS diversion program and police officers, around prevention of violent behaviors at home, school and community, by heightening awareness of violence in their community; combining the best practice principles of youth development, family support, social group work, academic enrichment, career exploration and recreation.
