Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $300,000)

Through the Edward Byrne Memorial Congressionally Recommended Awards program, the Office of Justice Programs helps communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and supports training and technical assistance programs and other efforts that strategically target local needs. This program is authorized to organizations identified in the Text and Joint Explanatory Statement, Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009.

The Molly Bish Center for the Protection of Children and the Elderly was established in 2004 by Anna Maria College in collaboration with John and Magi Bish. During the two year project period, OJJDP funds will support the development of an online resource directory for the families of murdered/missing children and implementation of six training and educational opportunities on child safety in New England for families of murdered/missing children, first responders, law enforcement, nurses, social workers, licensed mental health counselors, educators and public service professionals.
