The OJJDP FY 09 Earmarks Programs further the Department's mission by providing grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, to organizations identified in the Explanatory Statement Regarding H.R. 1105 (Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009), 155 Cong. Rec. H1653 (daily ed. Feb. 23, 2009) (statement by Rep. Obey, Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations of the House.
This organization will continue to implement Mathworks, Inc., which is a fun math enrichment program created by this organization. The goal is to help elementary and middle school students to approach and achieve state mandated math standards. This program offers math tours with collaborating companies, tutoring, computer labs and performance incentives. The Mathworks program operates year round and targets Latino youth ages 5-14. The performance measures include an increase in math skills, grades, self esteem, and a connection to school. 150 youth and 50 parents will participate. 40% of the youth will show improvement in math after 3 months.
