Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $75,000)
The OJJDP FY 09 Earmarks Programs further the Department's mission by providing grants, cooperative agreements, and other assistance authorized by the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act of 1974, as amended, to organizations identified in the Explanatory Statement Regarding H.R. 1105 (Omnibus Appropriations Act, 2009), 155 Cong. Rec. H1653 (daily ed. Feb. 23, 2009) (statement by Rep. Obey, Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations of the House).
The City of Marshallville, Georgia in partnership with Macon County Board of Education will facilitate a year round youth workforce development initiative through which 20 youth will gain exposure to the necessary skills and requirements vital to a successful matriculation through a rewarding pre-cursory workforce/career experience. Integrated activities will include trainings in communication, professional work etiquette, character development, interviewing techniques, job mentoring, resume writing, computer skills, field trips geared towards skills acquisition and retention and actual job placement.
The objectives for the project include: Enhancing job seeking opportunities and skills; Developing ten (10) corporate relationships that support the programs at Macon County High School and the needs of the students; Creating and conducting asset mapping; Creating partnerships between corporate industry, students and Macon County High School; and Working to promote positive coverage of Macon County High School programs and students with local media and through public presentations with local civic groups, businesses and the like.
