Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $360,000)

The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

Montana plans to provide program funding to involve youth in local law enforcement activities, youth task forces and community colations in reducing underage drinking in a minimum of five communities. In addition, Montana will support public advertising to educate establishments, youth and the public about statutory prohibitions, sanctions, and health consequences of underage drinking in a minimum of five communities. Furthermore, Montana will support innovative programs, including merchant training, party patrols, ID checks, internet investigations and others to prevent and combat underage purchasing and consumption of alcohol in a minimum of five communities.
