Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $360,000)

The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

The District of Columbia plans to provide program funding to support underage drinking enforcement efforts throughout the District to conduct compliance checks using ABRA investigators, MPD, and trained youth. In addition, the grant will support public advertising campaigns that focus on the effects of underage drinking in particular high-risk communities in the District. Furthermore, it will support innovative and collaborative programs to bring together government agencies and community-based organizations to prevent and combat underage drinking.
