Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $360,000)
The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.
Specifically, the State of Kansas intends to utilize EUDL funds to enforce and educate students on the perils associated with underage drinking. Grants will be established with local law enforcement to enforce and educate teens on the dangers of underage drinking and drinking and driving. Kansas Department Of Transportation (KDOT) has hired a media contractor to produce advertisements that will deter under drinking in the state. KDOT will continue to be a part of the Kansas Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free committee. Funds will be used to continue to sponsor The Youth Leadership Summit whose efforts deter underage drinking by educating community groups of teens on ideas they can implement in their own community.
