Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $360,000)

The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

Maine's underage drinking strategy is to reduce the percentage of youth in Maine (up to age 24, to include college students) who report current and lifetime use of alcohol, as well as recent binge drinking. Maine will also focus on creating the necessary changes in the social, legal, and economic environment to support the goals of this grant. The activities include statewide compliance checks, mini grants to law enforcement, and partially fund the statewide Higher Education Alcohol Prevention Partnership (HEAPP).
