Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2009, $360,000)

The goal of the Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL) Program is to support and enhance State efforts, in cooperation with local jurisdictions, to enforce laws prohibiting the sale of alcoholic beverages, or the consumption of alcoholic beverages by minors. For the purpose of the program, minors are defined as individuals under 21 years of age.

The State of Washington plans to provide program funding to support underage drinking prevention efforts throughout the State by implementing the following activities: implementation of a public communications campaign, entitled Start Talking Now, that focuses on getting parents to talk with their kids about underage drinking; support of a track on underage drinking at the Washington State Prevention Conference; and support for some analysis of the State Healthy Youth Survey, which is used to plan and evaluate the EUDL initiative in Washington.
