Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $2,000,000)

Recognizing that mentoring is essential to the development of young people, especially at-risk youth residing in this nation's most distressed areas such as tribal communities, Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) aims to continue their commitment to serving America's Native American youth through strengthening, enhancing and expanding their nationally recognized programs and life-changing mentoring experiences. Through three mentoring implementation goals, BGCA will enhance and expand mentoring experiences to 180 Boys & Girls Clubs serving tribal youth. Goal 1: Positively impact the lives of at-risk tribal youth by strengthening, enhancing and expanding collaborative approaches in our existing programs and mentoring experiences. Goal 2: Establish and expand the administration of mentoring programs for tribal youth, including the expansion of mentoring strategies and program design. Goal 3: Enhance and expand organizational capacity, system efficiency and cost-effectiveness through training and technical assistance and other strategies. BGCA will provide evidence via designated reporting systems that a significant number of youth received programs and mentoring experiences as a result of this funding, in addition to the 20 youth targeted at each of the 180 Clubs.
