The mission of LULAC National Educational Service Centers (LNESC) is to increase educational opportunities for Hispanic and low income youth through the development and implementation of effective educational programs in Hispanic communities throughout the United States. LNESC will expand the capacity for the existing LNESC National Mentoring Program to serve an additional three hundred and fifty (350) at-risk elementary and middle school youth (grades 4 ' 8) through a school-based mentoring program. The program will deliver the following long term outcomes: (1) assist children in receiving support and guidance from a mentor; (2) improve the academic performance of the children; (3) improve interpersonal relationships between the children and their peers, teachers, other adults, and family members; (4) reduce the dropout rate of the children; (5) reduce juvenile delinquency and involvement in gangs by the children; (6) improve the mentor-based training and performance of local and national staff; and (7) increase collaboration among local stakeholders.
