Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $177,707)
This project seeks to increase training opportunities for thirty-eight federal, state and local law-enforcement agency affiliates of the Northern Virginia-District of Columbia (NOVA-DC) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force (Task Force). The funds will be used to support training in the areas of investigation techniques, undercover operations, methods of evidence collection through onsite preview, especially for investigation of Cyber Tip leads, and basic data recovery courses. Courses will focus on new technologies and trends in the field to improve investigation techniques. Investigators will be afforded the opportunity to share investigative methods and techniques with other ICAC investigators through the attendance at courses provided by the ICAC Training and Technical Assistance Program, the National White Collar Crime Center, the Annual National ICAC Conferences, and/or any other appropriate training course. Training will be offered to school resource officers (SROs) on crime prevention techniques and intervention programs for parents and children. Performance will be measured by the increase in the number of investigators and SROs trained. Training will enable the Task Force to increase its effectiveness in the identification, apprehension and prosecution of child sexual predators and aid in the ultimate goal of protecting children from sexual victimization.
