Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $44,717)

In partnership with the Decatur County School System, Communities in Schools of Decatur County, Inc. (CISDC) will implement the 'Positive Socialization Program (PSP) for At-Risk Teenagers.' Its purpose is to increase the positive to negative experiences students encounter. PSP, designed around a new Video Production course at Bainbridge High Westside Performance Learning Center (PLC), will serve approximately 60 students in grades 9-12. Students will identify problem experiences associated with risky behaviors, research positive alternatives, write narrative scripts, produce videos, and take their videos 'on the road' to the other students in the county. PSP will accommodate 15 students per semester over a two-year period. PSP will foster positive social learning experiences and constructive behavior patterns, including the potential to embed PSP into the curriculum. Assessment of effectiveness will examine performance measures as follows: behavioral referrals, truancy, student involvement in school activities, overall grade point average (GPA), results of a pre- and post survey of participating students, and attainment of media literacy.
