Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $178,869)

El Museo del Barrio operates educational programs in New York's Congressional Districts 14, 15 and 16. An important objective of the educational outreach programs is to promote diversity, equity and access in the arts by increasing the availability of arts programs to disadvantaged children in underserved schools and community centers. El Museo is particularly interested in increasing school participation in these Districts through its Arts Partners programs, which promotes arts education as a crucial component of K-12 curricula and encourages positive inter-cultural experiences, creative self-expression and pride through arts education.
