Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $603,685)
The Aspire project seeks to prepare formerly incarcerated, at risk youth and their peers, whether released from incarceration or involved in previous gang or crime activity, with GED Test preparation classes, computer and life skills training, job readiness and higher-level education guidance. The project will offer 2,376 classroom sessions over a 2-year period, serving 300 youth. The number of participants that attend and show improvement in GED test preparation, behavioral, life and job readiness skills as well as the number of students involved in job internships, part-time or fulltime employment and their ability to sustain employment will measure success. The overall goal is to have the students re-enter the mainstream of society equipped for success. NCA/NCF
