Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $447,174)

The Cleveland Avenue YMCA is proposing to conduct free community-based educational programs encompassing academics, technology, cultural and athletics targeting children ages 3-15 living with families who are economically challenged in the City of Montgomery, Alabama. This program will reach out to the community and local schools targeting those students whose families live at or below the poverty level and/or considered at-risked. This program will provide a quality educational and safe haven for children, and will allow parents the opportunity to maintain employment while increasing their earning potential.

Quantitative and Qualitative measures will be developed. Progress will be tracked and recorded through observation-based reports; recorded number of books checked out and read from the YMCA and school libraries, and program and school attendance records. The performance measurements for the proposed project are intended to link with its goals and objectives to facilitate the collection of data needed to measure the success and progress of the afterschool program.
