Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $424,815)
The primary goal of this program is to enhance the lives of 300 homeless and at-risk youth during three 16-day sessions at Camp Homeward Bound. The Coalition will evaluate success of the Youth Service Program through several measures that include: the number of participating youth and the amount of time spent engaging youth in specific educational and recreational activities. The Coalition will also formally evaluate each child for changes in behavior, attitude, and academic skills using assessment forms and surveys. At Camp Homeward Bound these evaluations will be conducted on a daily basis, while the Bound for Success After School program will conduct evaluations monthly. The Bound for Success After School Program will also maintain ongoing relationships with parents to better monitor the effects of educational and recreational curricula on students' achievement. We distribute parent questionnaires that elicit qualitative information about their children at the time that they enter the program, during their enrollment in the program, and when they leave. We also ask parents to provide copies of report cards, educational testing results, and other school information that will help us better understand each child's individual needs. NCA/NCF
