Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $111,794)

LIFE Camp, Inc. (LIFE) was created to address the increasing dropout rate amongst NYC high school students in low to middle income communities. LIFE is the acronym for Love Ignites Freedom & Education. This concept is the foundation of our work. LIFE serves low-income African-American and Latino male and female teens. Of the one hundred youth participants in LIFE, 15 percent are homosexual. None of our students possess any major physical limitations but all have social and emotional inadequacies that lead them toward unhealthy lifestyles. We target youth who run a high risk of incarceration, teenage pregnancy, substance abuse, dropping out of school and continually demonstrate negative social behavior. NCA/NCF
