Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $44,717)

The James L. Barnes Community Development enter will provide a productive learning environment to accommodate troubled youth. The program will serve to meet the needs of troubled youth by providing weekly mentoring, counseling, tutoring services and computer technology skills. The desired goals of this particular program are to prevent at-risk students from becoming school dropouts and encourage them to become better law-abiding citizens. James L. Barnes CDC will track progress by reporting performance measures that include improvement in school attendance, academic achievement, improved school conduct, and the number of youth who offend or re-offend.
