Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $427,051)

The Shedd Aquarium Youth-at-Risk Project seeks to work in conjunction with existing community-based support structures. The program will maximize the effectiveness in serving Chicago youth by offering opportunities to develop lifelong learning and career skills through participating in science and conservation-based programs. Through an iterative process over the next two years, they plan to increase the relevance and accessibility of programs. The Shedd Aquarium Youth-at-Risk Program provides urban youth and teens an ability to create a legacy of environmental stewards who are connected to the living world around them and inspired to make a difference.
