Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $89,435)

The North Brooklyn Development Corporation (NBDC) aims to expand the After School Education & Recreation Program and Summer Camp Programs. The NBDC is a community based organization located in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn, New York City. With support from NYC Department of Youth and Community Development the organization runs an annual Out of School Time Program, providing a warm, healthy and safe environment for up to 70 students, ranging in age from six to eleven. A majority of the students come from very-low-income family households. The goal for the program is to increase educational excellence for students by teaching them how to behave in different settings: the classrooms, the cafeteria, gym room, hallways, or outside on field trips; how to respect adults and fellow classmates and most of all how to value and appreciate their experience while attending school. Activities include homework assistance and introduction of four new sessions: math, computers, language arts and arts & crafts. NBDC will report on OJJDP's mandatory performance measures. NCA/NCF
